She did not undergo liver biopsy or imaging studies. There was no serologic evidence of acute hepatis A, B, C or E and tests for Epstein Barr virus and cytomegalovirus infection were negative. Laboratory tests showed marked elevations in ALT and AST (Table) but normal levels of bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase and GGT. She denied alcohol or drug abuse and was not taking other medications. The following day she developed jaundice and was admitted to the hospital. On examination in the emergency room, she had epigastric tenderness but no other findings and was sent home. Acute liver injury attributed to use of energy drinks.( 1)Ī 22 year old woman developed low grade fever, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting and was found to have abnormal liver tests after having consumed 10 cans of energy drinks daily for 2 weeks. Likelihood score: C (probable rare cause of clinically apparent liver injury when used in high amounts).Ĭase 1. Thus, caffeine is unlikely to cause liver injury, but the various high caffeine energy drinks which are widely used may possibly cause liver injury when used to excess. The reports of caffeine overdose including cases with autopsies, hepatic injury has been absent or not mentioned. Furthermore, it remains unclear whether the hepatic effects of the energy drinks were caused by caffeine per se or to other components included in their formulation, such as vitamins, herbs or other botanical products. In other cases, other diagnoses were not completely ruled out (Case 2). In several instances, the hepatic injury resembled acute hepatic necrosis or ischemic hepatitis (Case 1) that may have been due to a drug overdose or cardiac arrest. These reports were often incompletely documented and not completely convincing. In addition, there have been several single case reports of liver injury linked to use of caffeine-rich energy drinks. Neverless, when taken in excessive amounts they can lead to caffeine toxicity with tremors, confusion, mania, stupor and coma and cardiac arrhythmias and cardiorespiratory failure. In high doses, generally in excess of 1000 mg daily, caffeine can have severe toxicity, marked by confusion, excessive anxiety, mania, hallucinations, seizures, rhabdomyolysis, cardiorespiratory arrest and death.Ĭaffeine Content of Selected Soft Drinks and Energy Drinks Available in the United StatesĬaffeine containing energy drinks are widely used and generally well tolerated. Adverse side effects of caffeine are generally dose related and can include nervousness, irritability, insomnia, headaches, rapid heartbeat, tremor, and gastrointestinal discomfort. Caffeine in typical amounts is well tolerated and not associated with significant side effects or long term adverse outcomes. Caffeine has been shown to have psychoactive properties and to increase alertness and wakefulness and improve physical and athletic performance, although to a minor degree and with considerable inter-individual variability. The average caffeine content in selected energy drinks and soft drinks is shown in the table below. Caffeine is also present in regular soft drinks but generally in amounts similar to tea (2 to 5 mg/oz and 24 to 60 mg per 12 oz can), although soft drink brands with extra caffeine have also become popular (Pepsi Max, Jolt Cola, Mountain Dew Energy). The caffeine content of these products varies from 5 to 40 mg per ounce, and a single serving (8 to 24 ounces 235-710 mL) may contain up to 300 mg of caffeine. Popular brands include Red Bull, Monster, Rockstar, NOS Energy, Xyience, Bang, Celsius, Zevia, Full Throttle and Kick Start. The commercial products vary greatly in concentration of caffeine as well as in other characteristics, such as carbonation, flavoring, sugar and sweeteners, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and botanical ingredients. Energy drinks were first marketed in the late 1990s and have subsequently become popular and widely available. Energy drinks are defined as beverages with high concentrations of caffeine that are purported to boost energy, physical and athletic performance and mental alertness.

Partner with Brumley Printing for B2B Direct Mail! Call (817) 336-5551Īs you can see, direct mail is a useful marketing tool to help your company reach financial and production goals. Technologies, including mailing lists, QR codes, printing on demand, variable data and personalization, have become more accessible and affordable. While many emails are never opened, direct mail has 79% engagement.Response to B2B direct mail is 37% higher than email. When combined with digital marketing, the success of B2B direct mail increases an additional 28-45% depending on the source. They are shifting away from completely digital and online strategies. More millennials and Gen Zs are in business decision-making decisions than ever before.Direct mail helps bring traffic to your website.Given the physical nature of direct mail, pieces can be saved, displayed and referred to again and again.Potential clients are becoming fatigued by digital ads. Digital marketing costs are increasing, so the ROI of direct mail campaigns is more attractive. We strongly believe that just like B2C services and products, companies seeking business clients reap rewards from B2B direct mail marketing.įirst, we’ll review some of the biggest benefits of direct mail, and why a B2B direct mail campaign makes good sense. But is direct mail only a tool for attracting consumers to your business? Should direct mail campaigns only be for B2C? At Brumley Printing, we answer those questions with an emphatic “NO”. But how do those social media and mobile marketing relationships get captured in the first place? Very often, it’s print! Saying that you only need social and mobile but not print is akin to saying that when buying a house you only need the upper stories but not the foundation. In previous blog articles, we have praised direct mail as an effective marketing strategy for reaching consumers. Folks claim you don’t need direct mail because you have social media and mobile marketing. Direct mail drives social media and online marketing. When you’re trying to reach the C-Suite, what’s that worth?Ĩ. While these mailings may have higher price tags, they can also get near 100% open rates. “They are not only fun, but they get opened!” Palko says. Direct mail offers options like kits, dimensional mail, and unique packaging options that get past gatekeepers. There are only so many things you can do to make email look more important. Direct mail can reach high-level decision-makers that email can’t. Yes, you can provide links, but with direct mail, you get that content in front of them in a tangible way right out of the gate.ħ. Mailers can also include a wide variety of trust-building content not possible (or reasonable) to include in email. B2B decision makers trust direct mail more than email, especially for high-value products and services. There is a reason businesses are more likely to get lending offers in the mail. Certain of fers just won’t get tracti on by email. As a result, a huge percentage of email sent to businesses is never read.”Ħ. It’s hard to separate the junk from the legitimate email. Larry Bradley, owner of Proforma Sunbelt Graphics, writes, “The overwhelming volume of email received at work is a huge hurdle for legitimate email marketers. This is true of consumers but even more true of businesses. Email is an effective tool, but we are overwhelmed by it. Direct mail doesn’t have the competition. If you send a postcard, the new person in that job sees it-and you’ve just introduced yourself as a vendor.ĥ. If you send an email to someone who’s no longer there, it bounces. It is still effective even when the target recipient has moved on from the company. You don’t get that kind of staying power-or attention-with email.”Ĥ. “Although they didn’t act immediately, we remained top of mind until they were ready to act. “We’ve had people tell us that they had one of our mailings sitting on their desks for months,” notes Andre Palko, president of Technifold USA. Think of it like consumers taping things to their refrigerator. Direct mail remains effective long after it hits the desk. “However, the odds are still much better- and it doesn’t contain a virus.”ģ. Direct mail doesn’t get caught in the spam filter. “Yes, it may be skimmed by a gate keeper,” notes Roger Buck, former director of marketing for The Flesh Company. Even if a customer does not subscribe or unsubscribes from your email list, you can still reach them with direct mail (This is why you should always get physical addresses from those on your email lists!).Ģ. Unlike email and text messaging, people don’t have to opt in. You don’t have to get recipients’ permission to send direct mail. The reality is that direct mail remains critical. Day in and day out, you are bombarded with false messaging that direct mail is dead. In 2259 Delta 7 scored a direct hit on Zeta Leader during exercises based on Centauri tactics. Engaged Raiders again later that year, ordered to guard the jumpgate with Delta 8 while the rest of the squad looked for the Achilles.

Stick to local foods, or generic stuff like Ore.When you run out of buyers for Fuel, look to full stations for very cheap goods.Space Fuel can be quick cash very early on.M4 and larger generally need to be shot down. Early station defense missions spam M5 scouts which will splat against the station in short order. Random missions will spawn quickly enough to get you some reputation and a little cash. Use this ship to scout out a sector for but/sell targets for your Mercury. One of the first upgrades you should get for the Discoverer is Trading System Extension. Selling some crates of Space Fuel is a quick return until you can scout out a good buying Ore Mine and a under stocked factory needing Ore. The problem with Humble Merchant is that the player starts with so little cash. Use the Discoverer, as the Mercury is way too slow to avoid police. I like to start out ferrying some contraband and scouting out the local stations. One sector north there are Space Fuel Distilleries. If I remember correctly, Humble Merchant in Albion Prelude still starts you in or around Argon Prime. It costs ~520k though, so there is a good few hours of manual trading before you :) So now you have three potential systems to trade ore to.įinally, to automize your Mercury, you need to first get the pilot to level 8, and buy a trading software MK3 in Home of Light's Terracorp HQ. there should be a couple more factories that use ore. From Home of Light go East to discover the Red Light sector. You should make a pretty decent money with this ore business. This will allow you to trade faster and outrace competition. Also, upgrade your boost, cargo space, and maneuverability to maximum asap. Also, having any of your ships (or satellites) in system lets you access all prices from the map menu, even if you are in different sector. As soon as you accumulate some money (say around 20k), go to Home of Light and buy trading extension in Terracorp HQ (it will allow you to check prices without having to dock in a station). Buy at the factories for cheap, sell at Argon free trading station (problem is, they eventually stop buying those). Pretty good deal, you just made 400% of money invested.Īlternatively, you can try to buy and sell Cahoona stakes. No ore in magazines = they pay 205 per ore. If you're lucky, they will be running out pretty soon. So as soon as you warp in, go to the factory on your left. Now there are two factories to the left of the South Gate. This is the easiest way to start up: buy Ore in one of the asteroid mines (should be two over there, try both to see which one has it cheaper, it all depends on how much it has in magazines (aim for C50 per ore)), and head back to Argon Prime. Head South Gate to Home of Light, and from there South again to Ore Belt. Here is how I started (recommend starting over as humble merchant): Get in the Mercury, and put your Discoverer in Argon Shipyard in Argon Prime. Note: X3: Albion Prelude will not be compatible with save-games from X3: Terran Conflict.Selling Mercury is the worst way to start: Discoverer is just a Scout, so it is virtually useless in combat (I eat Scout class ships for breakfast), and Mercury is the best way to start trading and hence making money.Improved UI introducing charts to visualize economic developments.Improved graphics quality setting for high end machines.New Stock Exchange feature allows advanced investment strategies.A new plot throws you into the power struggle between corporations at a time of war.Highways, a key feature of X: Rebirth, are not yet ready, but you can see them being built and participate in the power struggles around the construction of much larger self sustaining economies. Like most turntables these days, assembly is easy even for the uninitiated, and the instructions are well laid out in the Victrola Stream app. The dense MDF plinth (the base of the turntable) offers some decent anti-resonant properties and some substantial weight at just over 13 pounds, adding to its stability when put down on its rubber, vibration-absorbing feet. The turntable on its own is easily comparable to many mid-level turntables that would go for $300 to $500. The modern design blends easily with both contemporary and vintage furniture, the matte black surfaces match well with Sonos speakers (assuming your Sonos speakers are black), and its low profile makes it fit easily in a range of media unit spaces. The Stream Carbon’s clean lines, matte silver face, and minimalistic illuminated volume dial are welcome changes to that old Victrola aesthetic. When I first saw the Victrola Stream Carbon late last year, I was ecstatic to see a product from Victrola that wasn’t housed in a suitcase or that looked like it was from the 1950s. Modern design, simple setup Derek Malcolm/Digital Trends Victrola’s Stream Onyx turntable makes listening to vinyl over Sonos more affordableĨ of the best turntable accessories for vinyl supremacy The best turntables for 2023: from U-Turn, Pro-Ject, Rega and more That said, my time with the Victrola Stream has shown me that, while not perfect, it’s one of the best ways to play vinyl records over Sonos that I’ve yet to find. But for others just starting out with Sonos and want to include vinyl, with the Stream’s hefty price tag, there could be better and more cost-effective ways to do it. If you have an existing Sonos ecosystem in your home, the Stream Carbon could be an all-in-one way to integrate vinyl into it. And while it does have a couple of quirks, it sounds great, it’s easy to set up, and it’s made with some solid turntable components.īeing able to stream records throughout my whole house has been a delight, and it even integrates with my analog setup via RCA connectivity (with some challenges I’ll get into below). Enter the Victrola Carbon Stream, an MSRP $800 ($700 at the time of this review) wireless turntable developed with Sonos that is the first of its kind to stream vinyl records directly to a Sonos system, without the need for a line-in adapter or the use of an external device such as the Sonos Amp or Port. While Hubble caught glimmers of "toddler" galaxies, Webb will reveal those objects in greater detail while also capturing even fainter, earlier "infant" galaxies, astrophysicist Eric Smith, NASA's Webb program scientist, told Reuters hours before the launch.Īside from examining the formation of the earliest stars and galaxies, astronomers are eager to study super-massive black holes believed to occupy the centers of distant galaxies. Hubble's view reached back to roughly 400 million years following the Big Bang, a period just after the very first galaxies - sprawling clusters of stars, gases and other interstellar matter - are believed to have taken shape. That, astronomers say, will bring into view a glimpse of the cosmos never previously seen - dating to just 100 million years after the Big Bang, the theoretical flashpoint that set in motion the expansion of the observable universe an estimated 13.8 billion years ago. The new telescope's primary mirror - consisting of 18 hexagonal segments of gold-coated beryllium metal - also has a much bigger light-collecting area, enabling it to observe objects at greater distances, thus farther back into time, than Hubble or any other telescope. Webb mainly will view the cosmos in the infrared spectrum, allowing it to peer through clouds of gas and dust where stars are being born, while Hubble has operated primarily at optical and ultraviolet wavelengths. NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, striking a spiritual tone as he addressed the launch webcast by video link, quoted the Bible and hailed the new telescope as a "time machine" that will "capture the light from the very beginning of the creation." Named after the man who oversaw NASA through most of its formative decade of the 1960s, Webb is about 100 times more sensitive than Hubble and is expected to transform scientists' understanding of the universe and our place in it. And Webb's special orbital path will keep it in constant alignment with the Earth as the planet and telescope circle the sun in tandem.īy comparison, Webb's 30-year-old predecessor, the Hubble Space Telescope, orbits the Earth from 340 miles away, passing in and out of the planet's shadow every 90 minutes. Live video captured by a camera mounted on the rocket's upper stage showed the Webb gliding gently away after it was jettisoned, drawing cheers and applause from jubilant flight engineers in the mission control center.įlight controllers confirmed moments later, as the Webb's solar-energy array was deployed, that its power supply was working.Ĭoasting through space for two more weeks, the Webb telescope will reach its destination in solar orbit 1 million miles from Earth - about four times farther away than the moon. "From a tropical rain forest to the edge of time itself, James Webb begins a voyage back to the birth of the universe," a NASA commentator said as the two-stage launch vehicle, fitted with double solid-rocket boosters, roared off its launch pad into cloudy skies.Īfter a 27-minute, hypersonic ride into space, the 14,000-pound instrument was released from the upper stage of the French-built rocket about 865 miles above the Earth, and should gradually unfurl to nearly the size of a tennis court over the next 13 days as it sails onward on its own. The liftoff capped a project decades in the making, coming to fruition after years of repeated delays and cost over-runs. The flawless Christmas Day launch, with a countdown conducted in French, was carried live on a joint NASA-ESA webcast. EST (1220 GMT) from the European Space Agency's (ESA) launch base in French Guiana. The revolutionary $9 billion infrared telescope, described by NASA as the premiere space-science observatory of the next decade, was carried aloft inside the cargo bay of an Ariane 5 rocket that blasted off at about 7:20 a.m. Dec 25 (Reuters) - NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, built to give the world its first glimpse of the universe as it existed when the earliest galaxies formed, was launched by rocket early Saturday from the northeastern coast of South America, opening a new era of astronomy. The Libretro Team planned to release RetroArch onto Steam as a free download, integrating Steamworks features into the platform in July 2019. In April 2018, an input lag compensation feature called "Run-Ahead" was added. In December 2016, GoGames – a company contracted by video game developer and publisher Sega – approached the RetroArch developers with the intention of using their software in their SEGA Forever project but ultimately the cooperation did not come to fruition due to licensing disagreements. On November 27, 2016, the Libretro Team announced that, alongside Lakka ( LibreELEC-based RetroArch operating system), RetroArch would be on the Patreon crowdfunding platform to allow providing bounties for developers who fix specific software bugs and to cover the costs for matchmaking servers. On February 16, 2016, RetroArch became one of the first ever applications to implement support for the Vulkan graphics API, having done so on the same day of the API's official release day. RetroArch's version 1.0.0.0 was released on January 11, 2014, and at the time was available on seven distinct platforms. On April 21, 2012, SSNES was officially renamed to RetroArch to reflect this change in direction. It was intended as a replacement to bsnes's Qt-based interface but it grew to support more emulation "cores". It can run on several PC operating systems ( Windows, macOS, Linux), home consoles ( PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Wii U, etc.), handheld consoles ( PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Switch, etc.), on smartphones ( Android, iOS, etc.), single-board computers ( Raspberry Pi, ODROID, etc.) and even on web browsers by using the Emscripten compiler.įormerly known as SSNES, initially based on pseudonymous programmer Near's libretro predecessor libsnes, it began its development in 2010 with Hans-Kristian "themaister" Arntzen committing the first change on GitHub. RetroArch has been ported to many platforms. RetroArch runs programs converted into dynamic libraries called libretro cores, using several user interfaces such as command-line interface, a few graphical user interfaces (GUI) optimized for gamepads (the most famous one being called XMB, a clone of Sony's XMB), several input, audio and video drivers, plus other sophisticated features like dynamic rate control, audio filters, multi-pass shaders, netplay, gameplay rewinding, cheats, etc. It is the reference implementation of the libretro API, designed to be fast, lightweight, portable and without dependencies. RetroArch is a free and open-source, cross-platform frontend for emulators, game engines, video games, media players and other applications. The food prices are HIGH, and quality is NOT worth the investment. Eat before you go in (yes, I know you aren't supposed to eat for 30 minutes before getting in!! :). It's a great idea to keep them separate! 5). We informed a nearby lifeguard, and they announced all people over 54" withOUT a child could not be in this section. During our trip, a group of 20-somethings pushed my daughter down while running up the play structure. The splash bucket area and infant pools are for children and their family ONLY, not for an adult overflow. If you have small children, and the small kid's area is crammed with adults / teens, don't hesitate to tell the lifeguard. Each are so much fun on their own, and you'll burn out if you try and cram it all in to the same day. Don't plan to do the zoo and waterpark in the same day, if possible. The waterpark will not allow them, and you'll be forced to either leave it at the door or take it to your car (it is a LOOOOOONG walk back, so not worth it). seating is at a premium pretty much everywhere you go, and you'll need a place to pile your towels / things. WATERPARK: 1) Scout your seat first, rides later. Bathrooms are a bit few and far between, so make plans to stop when you see one, even if you don't think you need to. Get a map at the front door, and know where you need to go to "go". He is an amazing man, and meeting him was one of our trip highlights! 9) Scout bathrooms long in advance of walking. 8) At the ticket window, ask them if Jack Hanna is in the zoo today - he often visits, hosts discussions, or checks in on animals. Our kids' paint lasted almost 2 days! 7) PLAN TO STAY MORE THAN ONE DAY, especially if you are visiting the waterpark! This zoo is expansive, and there is no way you can see everything in one day, if you want to enjoy it. These artists seem to be much better than others at this zoo (or elsewhere!). 6) If you're getting your face painted, do it at the kiosk near the GORILLAS. They had snakes, flamingos, and turtles the day we went, the kids LOVED it. 5) Check out the hands on exhibit, located just through the main gate and off to the left (near the waterpark). 4) Make sure to check out the elephant enclosure - they have a small / baby elephant, and one jumbo male who was new to the zoo as of 2011 / 2012. If you aren't wearing really comfortable walking shoes your feet will get sore mid way through the trip, I guarantee it. If you can, plan to go when schools are OUT - if you can't, arrive at the zoo first thing in the morning (9:00 am), or wait until around 11:00 am, when the schools have arrived and gone through the gates already 3) Wear comfortable footwear - the zoo grounds are HILLY, and the zoo is very large. 2) This zoo is teeming with field trips when school is in session. The zoo is fine with this, as long as no containers are glass. We bring our own lunches, juices, and soda - based on zoo food prices, we saved about $45.00 for a family of 4. ZOO TIPS: 1) Bring your own drinks / food - if you have a stroller, this is a great option (otherwise carrying a cooler might stink). This visit was so memorable, this really is an incredible zoo! For some great tips from a family who went all over, read on. Please check for opening and hours updates. We revisited this zoo for the second time, and spent 2 days between the zoo and waterpark. *Weekends only before May 26 or after August 11.
